One of only 64 survivors of the sinking of HMCS Ottawa when it was torpedoed by U-91 in 1942. He lost his best friend, Frank Morrison, in that sinking and it was their second time being torpedoed. Their first encounter with a U-Boat was in 1940 aboard the SS Humber Arm.

Merchant Navy, WW2. Joined first ship, the Kindersley on 22 May 1940. Later the Devis, a passenger and freight ship and sailed to Malta where he spent one year in the Middle East as a naval supply ship. The Devis was severely bombed during the evacuation of Greece. He then joined the Awuitania and joined the naval tanker, Teakwood. He next served on Corralleys, and later joined the Queen Elizabeth. He was recalled to Canada and served on the Park boats during the next few years.

Born 8 Sep 1913 in Frenchman's Cove, son of George Samuel & Mary Catherine(Park). After the war he married Florence Wheeler on 15 Aug 1945; 2 children. He continued to work on boats and with Bowaters for several years, then worked in Toronto, presently reside in York Harbour.
